Kubah National Park

Situated at 20 kms from Kuching is the Kubah National Park of an area of about 24 square-kilometre where a day trip can be easily made. Kubah offers an excellent alternative of a park nearby Kuching to those visitors who are unable to go to the Bako National Park because of rough seas, especially during the monsoon season. Composed principally of sandstone, siltstone and shale, the plateau sandstone foundation has built a scrap-bounded range which includes Mt. Serapi, Mt. Selang and Mt. Sendok. This hardened sandstone foundation in the contour lines has caused the crystal clear and fast flowing head-waters of most streams to flow over a series of waterfalls. At least seven waterfalls, some up to 10m in height, in three sets can be found in the park. The forest is generally mixed dipterocarp as well as containing several varieties of fruiting trees and interpersed with patches of scrub forest. Due to its rich forest, its proximity to the mangrove and its dissected terrain, Kubah supports a large and varied animal community such as bearded pig, mouse deer, squirrel, black hornbill and many species of amphibians and reptiles. Rich in palms and orchids the park is also a haven for a wide variety of butterflies. Tour can be arrange to this National Park on either Daytrip basis or overnight with accommodation at a Resthouse.
