Visit the Bidayuhs, formerly known as the Land Dayaks during the era of the Brookes' and British colonial rule at Anah Rais. It is one of the many longhouses that dot the landscapes of Sarawak and is located at 100 kms from Kuching and quite close to the Indonesian Border. It is a popular destination because of its scenic surroundings and its size, which is large even by Sarawak's standard.
BIDAYUH LONGHOUSE - MUJAT (Day Trip)
Kampong Mujat longhouse is the home for the Bidayuh tribe (known as the Land Dayaks during the Colonial days). The journey takes about 2 hours drive by coach along kuching-Serian-Tebakang Mongkos roads of which 80 Km is sealed road and 20 Km of gravel feeder road. There are over 100 Bidayuh families with a population of more than 800 people,of which 36 families prefer to stay put in the longhouse.The longhouse in its typical and authentic style is made of hardwood and split bamboo flooring, though modernisation takes its course (electricity available). Like any other longhouse, the journey enroute is interesting, passing through scenic and undulating virgin and secondary jungles, native farmlands, padi fields, pepper orchards, and rubber plantation.
