Longhouse Tours

Lemanak / Batang Ai Combination
 

Day 1 The journey by road of 225 kms long takes you pass lush, scenic countryside doted with small roadside towns, farmhouses, Malay, Chinese and Bidayuh villages, pepper orchards, rubber and oil palm plantations interpersed with creeper-covered trees of the secondary jungle and tall gigantic trees of primary rainforest. Stopover at Serian for a short tour of the town. Continue your journey to Lachau or another roadside town for lunch until you reach the Lemanak River where you will board a motorised longboat for a thrilling ride - travelling upstream against the flow of the water. Arrive at either Serubah/Nanga Kesit longhouse and experience for yourself a way of life that goes back many centuries. Take a dip or swim in the cool water of the Lemanak River. Dinner at a guesthouse equipped with basic amenities. In the evening, entertainment by the longhouse residents will consist of traditional dances to the music of the gongs and drinking tuak. Stay a night in the guesthouse, built specially by the residents for guests' accommodation, in the heartland of Borneo rainforest, one of the oldest in the world. (L/D)

Day 2 Breakfast at the Resthouse. After breakfast proceed for a short jungle walk near the vicinity of the longhouse followed by a blowpipe demonstration. Lunch will be served at the resthouse before departing either Serubah/Nanga Kesit longhouse by longboat for Jetty and by road to Hilton Batang Ai Resort. Upon arrival at Batang Ai Jetty you will proceed for another 15 to 20 minutes boat ride across the hydro lake to the Hilton Batang Ai Resort. Dinner and accommodation at Hilton Batang Ai Resort. Day 3 Breakfast at the Resort, followed by a short nature walk in the vicinity of the Resort before departing for Kuching via the same route with a stopover at a roadside town for lunch. (B/L)
